The main scientific interests of the Peptide and Protein Chemistry and Engineering Team focus on the synthesis, research, and application of protein fragments and synthetic peptides. Utilizing peptide synthesis methods and their derivatives, the team aims to create peptide collections that resemble the properties of native proteins. The selection of active protein fragments enables the use of peptides in medicine, biomedical engineering, and biology. The group is led by Prof. Beata Kolesińska.
Key research areas include:
- Design and synthesis of biologically active peptides and their application in medicine.
- Design, synthesis, and utilization of peptide conjugates (peptide-drug, peptide-marker).
- Design and production of peptide/protein materials with defined activity and utility.
- Design and creation of hybrid materials containing peptides and/or proteins with intended biological activity.
- Study of peptide 3D structures and the relationship between their conformation and susceptibility to forming stable conformers that favor the initiation of the aggregation process.
- Proteomics and metabolomics studies using mass spectrometry.
