Łukasz Albrecht

Łukasz Albrecht is a graduate of the Faculty of Chemistry at Lodz University of Technology, completing his studies in the chemistry of biologically important compounds in 2004. He defended his PhD thesis five years later, receiving the Prime Minister's Award and the Sigma-Aldrich and Polish Chemical Society Award. In 2015, he earned his habilitation in chemical sciences, followed by the title of professor in 2019. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Aarhus University in Denmark under the mentorship of Professor Karl Anker Jørgensen, as a recipient of the Kolumb Program scholarship from the Foundation for Polish Science.

After more than three years abroad, he returned to the Institute of Organic Chemistry at Lodz University of Technology in 2013. A grant from the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR) under the Lider program enabled him to establish a new research team focused on asymmetric catalysis using chiral organic catalysts. He is the co-author of over 100 publications in JCR-listed journals and several book chapters (bibliometric parameters: h-index = 28, with over 4000 citations). He has led seven research grants funded by the National Science Centre, the Foundation for Polish Science, and NCBiR. Since 2020, he has served as the Vice-Rector for Science at Lodz University of Technology.

Throughout his career, Professor Albrecht has received numerous awards, including the Włodzimierz Kołos Scientific Award from the Third Division of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Young Scientist Medal from Warsaw University of Technology, the Mieczysław Mąkosza Young Scientist Award, and a regional award for outstanding scientific achievements in Łódź. He was also a finalist in the 14th edition of the Polityka Science Awards.

Professor Albrecht's research focuses on one of the most important areas of modern organic chemistry: asymmetric catalysis. His work involves designing innovative synthetic methodologies to prepare biologically important compounds with high practical utility.
